October 2022 Reading Plan

It’s my favorite time of year and I’m so pumped to read some October spooktaculars. I don’t have anything ultra scary on this list (at least I don’t think so, but I could be surprised still) but I do hope to feel some chills on spooky evening walks.

This year, I’m setting my October reading goal very low, so I’m including some extras in an “If I finish my goal” kind of category.

Main Goal: Finish 6 Books

The plan for October at my house is to not spend any money on new books (sounds insane right?), which means reading from my shelves or the library. Since library holds here can get super crazy (who waits 17 weeks for a book these days!!??), I’ll try to stick with my own shelves to start. This month, I’m going with:

1. The Clackity – By Lora Senf
It’s a new book and author to me so I’m going to read this one in hardcover. It sounds spooky and exciting and lots of fun! Who doesn’t love a haunted town that embraces their ghostly spirit friends?

2. The Golden Enclaves – By Naomi Novik
I’ve been waiting for this book for a year and cannot wait to pick it up this weekend. It hits the fantasy + dark academia vibes for me. Reading this one in hardcover.

3. Meg – By Steve Alten
A scary story that I can’t wait to dive into. I want to be terrified of the ocean when we go to Hawaii next. I have not seen the movie so I’m hoping it’s good. Reading this one in hardcover.

4. Hallowe’en Party – By Agatha Christie
I love Christie and her writing. I’m saving this one for Halloween week, so it’ll be my last book of the month. Hercule Poirot is just so cool. Reading this one in paperback.

5. Ghost Story – By Jim Butcher
I’ll spend the month reading this on and off via Audiobook. I’m resolved to finish by the 31st (only 10.5 hours left to go, how many days could this possibly take!?)

6. World War Z – By Max Brooks
This is one of my favorite books of all time. I’m going to listen to Audiobook while at work this month for some spooky feels and zombie dreams.

Additional Maybes: 4 More Books

1. Ravenfall – By Kalyn Josephson
I bought this book because I love the cover and how autumnal it is. Bonus that the story is supposed to be super good! I’ll read this in hardcover.

2. The Silent Stars Go By – By Dan Abnett
A Doctor Who story about my favorite Doctor. I’ve had this on my shelf for a while and my hold at the library should be ready this week. I’ll listen to this on Audiobook if I have time.

3. When Humans Nearly Vanished – By Donald R. Prothero
I browsed this one a few weeks ago and put it on hold at the library. It’s about the volcanic eruption that nearly wiped out humans, pretty scary right? I’ll listen to this on Audiobook.

4. The Man Who Caught The Storm – By Brantley Hargrove
I’ve put this one off since it was released because I was really sad when Tim Samaras died. If I have free reading time, I decided to try getting it started this month. I picked up the library Audiobook on this one, there was no wait.
